When I compose I use a great piece of software called Reaper. I used to make all of my compositions in CuBase but I now use Reaper because it is much cheaper and has a very similar work flow.
How much does Reaper cost?
For a discounted license Reaper only cost $60. If your yearly gross revenue does not exceed USD $20,000 you’re good to go with the discounted license. Wanna go with the full license? well thats only $225!
What kind of music can you make in Reaper?
Reaper is very versatile, so any kind of music you like. It’s only your skills and the size of your computer that limit your output. I use it primarily for cinematic style music but thats just because I love making that kind of stuff.
Reaper has lots of great features and honestly don’t see why you would choose anything else. Only if you have to exchange files with other musicians I could see a point in choosing something like Cubase or Cakewalk.
If you are in the movie industry, then more expensive software like Pro Tools might be a good investment.
When it comes to music production software today my number one recommendation is Reaper.
